Paranoia

A feeling of being watched, threatened, or targeted by a threat or threat to one's life or well-being

Paranoia is a false feeling that one is being watched or being threatened somehow which we all feel at some point in our lives; however, one has the insight that it is not valid. They are unable to confide in or trust others. Moreover, they cannot forgive, accept criticism, or compromise. They believe that they are right and have trouble being vulnerable and letting their guard down. They are also easily offended and can be aggressive, defensive, and hostile. In some cases, one may experience hallucinations. One may share these paranoid thoughts even when they are on pleasant occasions around others.

  • Erratic social behavior
  • Incapable of compromising, forgiving, or accepting criticism.
  • Not being able to trust or confide with others.
  • Reading hidden messages into people's normal behavior.

Stress due to adverse events can lead to paranoia. One needs to meditate or find some time to laugh and relax to feel stress-free. Psychiatric disorders such as paranoid personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and schizophrenia can lead to paranoia. Paranoia can be so intense that the individual sometimes experiences serious episodes of hallucinations and fails to believe in the reality around them.
